Cottonwood Plains Elementary School Family and Community Compact (2024-25)

A School-Parent Compact for Achievement is an agreement that parents, students and teachers develop together. It explains how parents and teachers will work together to make sure all our students reach or exceed grade-level standards.

Effective compacts:

• Link to goals of the school improvement plan

• Focus on student learning skills

• Describe how teachers will help students develop those skills using high-quality instruction

• Share strategies parents can use at home

• Explain how teachers and parents will communicate about student progress

• Describe opportunities for parents to volunteer, observe, and participate in the classroom

Jointly Developed

The parents, students and staff of Cottonwood Plains Elementary School developed this School-Parent Compact for Achievement. Teachers suggested home learning strategies, parents added ideas to make them more specific, and students told us what would help them learn. Meetings are held each year to review the Compact and make changes based on student needs.

Parents can contribute comments at any time.

All volunteers are required to register with the district and pass a background check before being allowed to volunteer in the school.

• Prioritize school attendance by helping students get to school on time each day.

• Ensure my student gets adequate sleep and proper nutrition.

• Encourage 60 minutes of physical activity daily.

• Open communication with the school, including the teacher and office, as circumstances arise to maximize student potential.

• Talk to my child about school daily.

• Schedule daily shared and/ or independent reading time outside of school.

• Encourage study habits and review completed work.

• Monitor my child’s screen time.

• Support my child’s emotional, physical, and social needs.

• Encourage positive relationships between students and teachers, staff, other students, and families within the CPES Community.

• Read at least 20 - 30 minutes every day outside of school time.
• Practice math fact fluency as assigned.

Focus Area 1: Student Achievement

Strategic Goal: By 2025, Thompson School District will move from a rating of accredited to a rating of accredited with distinction as measured by the State of Colorado District Performance Framework.

Focus Area 2: Inclusive and Supportive Culture

Strategic Goal: By 2025, as measured by survey results, Thompson School District will increase by 10% the number of students, staff, parents, and community members who “strongly agree” or “agree” that they feel welcome, safe, and supported.

Strategic Goal: Thompson School District will maintain an annual staff retention rate of 85% or greater.
