Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books is an exciting academic competition that inspires students to read thoughtfully, work collaboratively, and dive deeply into literature. Throughout the year, students read from a selected list of books representing a variety of genres, authors, and themes.
Students then form teams and participate in a friendly competition where they answer questions based on the books they’ve read. These questions go beyond basic recall—students must remember details, analyze characters and events, make connections, and demonstrate a strong understanding of the text.
Battle of the Books encourages students to:
-
Read widely and consistently
-
Strengthen comprehension and critical thinking skills
-
Practice close reading and attention to detail
-
Collaborate, communicate, and problem-solve as a team
-
Build confidence and a love of reading
Most importantly, Battle of the Books turns reading into a shared, motivating experience. Students discover that books are not just assignments, but gateways to discussion, teamwork, and excitement. This program helps develop lifelong readers who enjoy engaging deeply with stories and ideas.
